Incognito Mode Is Not 100% Safe?
As we know, that Google provides incognito or incognito mode, this mode is considered by some users to be able to maintain their personal data. Many users use this incognito mode hoping that their privacy is maintained, but recently Google stated that incognito mode is not 100% safe.
Your data may not be completely safe when browsing in incognito or incognito mode in the Chrome browser, this is mentioned by Google itself that "incognito or incognito does not mean invisible". Google explains to users that their activity while in incognito mode can still be visible to the websites they visit and third-party analytics or ad services used by the websites visited.
In a complaint filed last June against Google by three users, Google has been accused of being in the "widespread business of data tracking",3 the users claim that the company secretly collects users' information even when they go further to protect their personal information, such as using incognito mode in Chrome. According to CNET, the lawsuit claims that Google uses systems such as Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager, website plugins, and other applications, including mobile apps, to collect user data.
Despite Google's desire to have the $5 billion lawsuit dismissed, a US District Judge has ruled that Google will face a class action lawsuit. US District Judge Lucy Koh stated in her ruling that the search engine giant "did not inform users that Google engaged in alleged data collection while users were in private browsing mode, better known as incognito".
Google, however, disagreed with the claims of the user lawsuit and said that it would vigorously defend itself against them. Jose Casteñeda, a Google spokesperson, explained that incognito mode gives users the option to browse the internet without saving their activity to their browser or to their phone, "as we clearly state every time you open a new incognito tab, websites may be able to collect information about your browsing activity during your session". Google in its court filing made it clear that browsing in incognito does not guarantee 100% security of one's data, and for users this means incognito does little to protect their online privacy.
Google, earlier this year had announced its plans to remove third-party cookies that will not be replaced with other technologies that may be invasive once removed. This change means that cookies will not be able to collect information in the Chrome browser, as they will be banned.
