Facebook users no longer need to switch to a separate app to send messages
After being a separate service for so long, messenger will return to an integrated service in the Facebook Mobile application. What caused Meta to merge the two services that separated for almost a decade
When Meta removed the Messenger service from the Facebook app in 2014, it said, "our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences".
The main reason why Meta brought back messaging (Messenger) to the Facebook Mobile app is to make it easier for people to share what they find on Facebook via messaging, when, where, and in a way that suits their needs, without the need to switch to another app.
In a blog post, Meta assures people that Facebook is not dead or dying because, at this point, Facebook already has more than 2 billion users.
To compete with competing platforms such as TikTok, Meta seeks to transform Facebook from an app where users view activities or photos of friends and family into a platform for entertainment and discovery.
TikTok allows users to share the videos they find with their friends through a built-in messaging feature. So, on the one hand, Meta reversed course and went back to the old way of doing things, but on the other hand, they copied the competition again.
